Is it really there? I found the movie scene location for them!

Recently, a question surfaced online: “Where is the cemetery scene from The Fog (2005) located?” Intrigued, I set off on another SetJetters quest to track down the film scene location.
The 2005 remake of The Fog is a supernatural horror film that transports viewers to Antonio Island, a fictional community off the Oregon coast. The story follows a group of island residents who uncover a dark secret from their town’s past. A mysterious fog rolls in, bringing with it vengeful spirits seeking justice for a betrayal that occurred centuries earlier. While the eerie setting plays a crucial role in the film’s atmosphere, many fans have wondered about the real-world locations where the movie was filmed – especially the cemetery scenes.
Here’s How I Found the Cemetery From “The Fog”

The film presents Antonio Island as a sizable island off the Oregon coast. However, geographically speaking, no such large island exists there. A quick search revealed that the movie was actually filmed in British Columbia, Canada – specifically on Bowen Island.
To start my search, I focused on the cemetery entrance shown in the film. I conducted an image search and viewed maps of the area, hoping to find a match, but nothing surfaced. The arch above the entrance bore the Latin phrase Insula a Deo Electa, which translates to “Island Chosen by God” refers to a structure in the human brain, the “Island of Reil” where decisions are made. Unfortunately, this detail provided no leads to a real-world cemetery.
Where Is The Cove?
With no significant cemeteries listed on Bowen Island, I examined the mountain range in the background of the scene. It was possible the mountains had been added digitally, but I needed to be sure. The cemetery scene in the film features a large open field leading to the water, with a marina visible in the background.

This clue helped me narrow my search to waterfront areas with expansive fields and begin looking for mountain ranges in the background.
After reviewing satellite images and comparing landscape features, I identified a promising location: Snug Cove, specifically the Crippen Park Picnic Shelter and Grounds. The treeline, mountain range, and marina all aligned with what appeared in the film. There’s even an individual old-growth tree I can line up in the film and at the park. But one major question remained: where exactly was the cemetery?

The Cemetery Wasn’t Real
Upon closer examination of the scene, I noticed something peculiar. In one shot, the cemetery gates stand in the foreground, with no fence or signs visible in the background. In another shot featuring Maggie Grace’s character, the gates have shifted behind her. This suggested that the cemetery wasn’t a real, permanent location – it was a movie set.

To confirm this theory, I conducted a reverse image search of the cemetery props. Sure enough, I discovered that the angelic statue featured in the scene was created by a prop company called DreamCast. This confirmed that the tombstones, gates, and cemetery elements were all temporary set pieces placed in the park specifically for filming.
Final Verdict: Snug Cove, Bowen Island
The cemetery scene in The Fog (2005) was filmed in Snug Cove at the Crippen Park Picnic Shelter and Grounds on Bowen Island. While visitors won’t find an actual cemetery there, they can explore the beautiful park and take in the same breathtaking backdrop seen in the film.
